The Dance Design School’s Jazz and Tap program in Montgomery follows the public school cut off and each level is age specific.  Your child may begin jazz and tap at the age 6 or 1st grade in school. Each level uses imagery, story lines and games to provide appropriate body movements as well as covering body placement, technique, stylization, rhythm and musicality. As the levels progress new complex material is combined with the previous levels work. It is our strong recommendation that for maximum progress each dancer take a minimum of one ballet class per week. This will give your child the basic fundamentals of good line, placement and musicality. Year End Show preparation will begin in March. Dances will be choreographed based on the class work learned during the school year. Dancers rent costumes verses buying costumes, saving you hundreds in costume fees. Parents will receive 2 free tickets and 1 free DVD.Tap Classes: Tap is a broad term for many of today’s popular tap styles. You can find tap in Broadway shows, in T.V. commercials, and movies such as ‘Happy Feet’. Our tap classes will cover many of these styles including American tap dance, rhythm tap and hoofing. Techniques will be based on the masters who created them; Charles Kelly and Savion Glover. The focus of each tap class is to improve the student’s sound clarity, rhythm and musicality, timing and phrasing. Classes are structured in the traditional tap format; warm-up exercises, technique and progressive movements, combination or dance routine.
