The Dance Design School
Services - Jazz and Tap

The Dance Design School’s Jazz and Tap program follows the same levels divisions as the ballet program and can be started at age 6. Each class is age specific. Each level provides appropriate body movements as well as covering body placement, technique, stylization, rhythm and musicality. As the levels progress new complex material is combined with the previous levels work. It is our strong recommendation that for maximum progress each dancer take a minimum of one ballet class per week. This will give your child the basic fundamentals of good line, placement and musicality.

Jazz Classes: Techniques covered are; Charles Kelly, Gus Giordano, Matt Mattox and Bob Fosse. Styles covered are; lyrical, street jazz, funk, and hip-hop. Classes are structured in the traditional format; Isolations, stretching, dance technique, progressive movements, combination or dance routine. Class Attire: hair up off20the neck and face, leotard (same as the corresponding ballet level), tights, black jazz shoes or sneakers. Jazz pants may be worn.

Tap Classes: Techniques covered are; Charles Kelly and Savion Glover. Styles covered are; American tap dance, rhythm and hoofing. The focus of each tap class is to improve the student’s sound clarity, rhythm and musicality, timing and phrasing. Classes are structured in the traditional format; warm-up exercises, technique and progressive movements, combination or dance routine. Class Attire: hair up off the neck and face, leotard (same as the corresponding ballet level), tights, black tap shoes. Jazz pants may be worn.
