Mel Johnson

A native of Cornwall-on-Hudson, Mr. Johnson began his study of ballet with the late Lee Vincent Toon. He further studied with Lillian Moore, Perry Brunson, Basil Thompson, Muriel Stuart, Vitale Fokine, Thomas Armour and Martha Mahr. He danced with the State Ballet of Rhode Island, the New Haven Ballet, Miami Ballet and was a director of the Fort Walton Beach Ballet Association. He was a member of the Joffrey Ballet, and served as secretary to Robert Joffrey. Mr. Johnson studied English at SUNY New Paltz, and is a decorated Vietnam veteran of the regular U.S. Air Force. He is currently employed at Washington’s Headquarters, Newburgh, and is a Major of the 124th NYS Volunteer Infantry, an Historic Military Command of the State of New York. Mr. Johnson returned to the local stage as the Dancing Master in “The Magical Christmas”, and has continued with appearances as Dr. Drosselmayer in “The Nutcracker Short & Sweet”. He is also an Administrator of the popular internet message board, Ballet Talk for Dancers.
